Air Combat Officer Training System
Cirrus has developed the Air Combat Officer Training System (ACOTS) for the RAAF's Air Mission Training School (AMTS) at RAAF East Sale. This system enables AMTS to train ACO students on the conduct of air missions by developing skills in sensor awareness, tactical communications, tactical picture compilation and engagement.
ACOTS incorporates a high fidelity simulation of a platform based radar, which may be configured to act like a range of radars. The radar imaging process determines ground returns on the basis of actual terrain features and ground coverage, and combines this with returns from a range of synthetic contacts which are under scenario control.
By simulating radar signal processing, ACO students may discover the impacts of vertical beam steer, platform elevation, weather conditions, processing gain and terrain slope on the ability to detect contacts.
ACO students interact with an emulation of a modern multi-function display console to identify contacts, mark them into their tactical display system, accept off-board link contacts, transmit contacts off-platform and manage their own mission.
ACOTS is available in a range of airborne and ground based training configurations, and is in operational use at AMTS and is supported by Cirrus.
